Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Anambra State Police Command have uncovered a cache of weapons and materials tied to a suspected kidnapping and murder gang.

The discovery was made on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, following useful intelligence obtained from a 26-year-old suspect, Ebuka Orizu, who is currently in police custody.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was launched after Orizu revealed the location of some of the gang’s tools. Police operatives stormed a compound in Oba, which is also the hometown of a popular native doctor, and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol, eleven live cartridges, and two laptops believed to have been used for criminal activities.

Preliminary investigations show that Orizu is part of a notorious gang responsible for several cases of kidnapping and killings around the Oraifite area and nearby communities. The police said a manhunt is ongoing to capture other fleeing members of the gang.
