    NiDO-Worldwide Gets New Coordinating Chairman

    Share

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NiDO)-Worldwide has appointed Sir Chibuzo Ubochi as its new Coordinating Chairman. His appointment comes as the tenure of the outgoing chairman, Dr Victor Ubani, officially comes to an end.

Ubochi, who currently serves as Chairman of NiDO-Europe, will now lead the global diaspora body, taking over the rotational leadership seat previously held by Ubani on behalf of NiDO-Americas.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday by Dr Ubani, who praised Ubochi for his past contributions to the organisation and expressed confidence in his leadership capacity.

“It is with great pleasure that I hand over the baton of Coordinating Chairman of NiDO-Worldwide to Sir Chibuzo Ubochi,” Ubani said. “He is a tested and trusted leader with deep knowledge of the workings of our global structure.”

Ubochi’s emergence followed a closely contested election within NIDO-Europe, where he won against Dr Johnson Odibo. The election was described as transparent and robust, attracting wide participation from the Nigerian diaspora in Europe.

Ubochi is not new to NiDO leadership. He previously served as Chairman of NiDO UK South and as the Legal Adviser to the NiDO-Worldwide Coordinating Platform, a role that gave him firsthand experience of the organisation’s operations across its five continental branches.

Ubani commended the cooperation among the various arms of the organisation during his time in office and called for continued unity under the new leadership.

“During my time, we worked hard to make NiDO a more effective and relevant body representing Nigerians abroad. I believe we made good progress, but more work still needs to be done,” he said.

He stressed that NiDO must continue to serve as a platform to unite Nigerians living abroad and contribute meaningfully to national development through knowledge transfer, investments, and policy advocacy.

Ubani urged members and executives across all five continental arms—Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania—to give Ubochi the same level of support he enjoyed.

“The task ahead is not a small one. We need a united front, focused energy, and shared purpose to serve the global Nigerian community and contribute to our homeland,” he said.

Founded in 2000 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation is the umbrella body for all Nigerian diaspora groups around the world. Its aim is to mobilise the talents, resources, and goodwill of Nigerians abroad for national development.

With millions of Nigerians living in the diaspora, NiDO plays a vital role in advocacy, engagement, and partnership between the Nigerian government and its citizens overseas.

Ubochi’s tenure as Coordinating Chairman is expected to focus on strengthening internal coordination, deepening diaspora engagement, and expanding NiDO’s influence both locally and internationally.
