Eight people, including a local security volunteer, were kidnapped by armed bandits on Tuesday in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident occurred around 12:55 p.m. in the Fadama area, near the villages of Jangeru and Birnin Yero. According to local sources, the gunmen stormed the area in broad daylight, abducting seven villagers and a member of the Community Protection Guard (CPG) attached to Jangeru.

“The armed bandits abducted eight persons, including one member of the Community Protection Guard and seven other villagers,” a source said.

The CPG, a local security initiative formed by communities in Zamfara to help protect themselves from attacks, has been targeted by bandits in recent months.

Tuesday’s attack adds to the growing list of kidnappings and violence that have plagued Zamfara State in recent years. The state has become one of the epicentres of banditry in Nigeria’s North-West, where gangs of armed men frequently raid villages, loot homes, and demand ransoms for abducted victims.
