Thirteen criminal suspects, including several accused of kidnapping and murder, escaped from police detention in Nasarawa State in the early hours of Friday, June 14, 2025.
According to police sources, the suspects broke through the rear wall of their cell at the Area Command headquarters, around 6:30 a.m. The escape involved inmates held by the officers in charge of Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism units.
Among the fugitives are suspects linked to serious crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and culpable homicide. Those named include Jamilu Abdulsalam, Abdullahi Yahaya, Usman Yerima, Abba Musa, Idris Hussaini, and others with records of chain theft and violence. One of them, Usman Ibrahim, also known as “Tecno,” is said to belong to a secret cult group.
The police confirmed that efforts are underway to track down and rearrest the escapees. Meanwhile, officers responsible for duty during the incident — including the Cell Record Officer, duty officer, and visiting-round officer — have been queried and are under investigation for negligence.
The jailbreak has raised serious questions about security lapses within the police facility. Local residents have expressed concern, fearing that the escape of such dangerous suspects poses a serious threat to public safety.
Police authorities have called on members of the public to report any suspicious movement or provide information that could lead to the capture of the escapees.
