Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia announced on Sunday that special security forces have started arriving in the state to address rising insecurity and attacks on communities.

The governor made the announcement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, in a statement released in Makurdi. The special tactical and response squads are being deployed to vulnerable areas affected by recent violent attacks, including the massacre at Yelwata attributed to suspected armed herders.

Governor Alia condemned the attacks, expressing sympathy for the victims and assuring residents that the state government is working closely with federal security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to restore peace.

He said more tactical teams have arrived from the Federal Government, with additional security measures planned to protect lives and properties. Joint operations units in the state are also being strengthened, while community dialogue efforts continue to improve intelligence sharing.

The governor urged religious, traditional, and political leaders to discourage youths from engaging in violent gatherings and to promote peace.
