Popular broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has declared that he will contest for the governorship of Oyo State in the 2027 general elections — and that he is confident of winning.
Hamzat made this known during a live radio broadcast while responding to a caller from abroad who advised him against joining the race. The caller warned that despite Hamzat’s good works, the masses might not vote for him during the elections.
“You are helping the people, but don’t rely on them to vote for you when the time comes,” the caller said. “Even your own polling unit could be lost if politicians bring money there.”
In a strong response, Hamzat dismissed the warning, saying he is determined to follow his own path.
“I have my own brain. I don’t want to listen to advice like this again,” Hamzat said. “If I contest, I will win. You don’t know what people are thinking.”
He emphasized that discouragement would not stop him and that he believes the people of Oyo are ready for genuine leadership.
Though Hamzat has not formally declared his party platform or campaign structure, his comments have stirred early political discussions in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
