Gunmen Attack Senator Natasha’s Kogi Home Again, One Suspect Arrested

    Share

Gunmen on Tuesday night attacked the country home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, marking the second such incident in recent months.

The attackers vandalized parts of the building, including windows, and attempted to cause further damage before being repelled by security forces, local vigilantes, and youths in the area.

One suspect, Suberu Jose, a native of the community, was arrested at the scene. He was reportedly found with a cutlass and charms, and allegedly confessed to being involved in three previous attacks on the senator’s residence. Other suspects fled and remain at large.

Eyewitnesses said an angry mob nearly lynched the suspect before police officers intervened and took him into custody.

This latest attack comes just two months after a similar incident on April 15, 2025, when gunmen also targeted Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s home. No arrests were made in that earlier case, making Tuesday’s arrest a key development in the ongoing investigation.

The renewed violence comes at a time of growing political tension. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, is currently facing two criminal charges filed by the Federal Government, shortly after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment—an allegation that led to her six-month suspension from the Senate.

Her media team has urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting her cause for justice, saying that intimidation and violence should not silence her advocacy for the people of Kogi Central.

Security forces say efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers.
