The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, a 44-year-old man described as the most wanted and deadly assassin in Lagos in recent years.
Akinwande was captured in the Agbado area of Ogun State during a special operation code-named **‘Silence, Speed and Surprise’** carried out by the police tactical squad. The suspect had been on the run for years after allegedly terrorising Mushin and other parts of Lagos with killings, armed robbery, and cult-related violence.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Friday that Akinwande was the leader of a notorious gang of killers and had been responsible for numerous violent crimes over the past decade.
“This arrest marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime in Lagos,” Hundeyin stated.
Police also recovered a large cache of weapons and incriminating items from Akinwande’s hideout, which he reportedly admitted to using during his operations. Items found include:
– 2 AK-47 rifles
– 1 K2 assault rifle
– 3 pump-action guns
– 2 locally made pistols
– 57 live cartridges
– 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
– 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition
– 3 walkie-talkies
– 9 international passports
– Several magazines, a dagger, and an expended round
According to the police, Akinwande’s crimes left “trauma, horror, agony and pains” in the lives of many families. At least four families have already identified him as the man behind the killing of their relatives.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, has directed the State CID to launch a deeper investigation and arrest other gang members connected to Akinwande.
The suspect is currently in custody under heavy security and will face prosecution for his crimes.
