A grenade was thrown at the residence of the Norwegian ambassador to Israel, Per Egil Selvaag, on Thursday evening in Tel Aviv, according to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
The incident, which caused an explosion but no injuries, has drawn strong condemnation from both Israeli and Norwegian officials. Saar, writing on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), described the act as a “serious and dangerous crime.”
The Norwegian Foreign Ministry confirmed the explosion in a statement from Oslo, adding that no embassy staff members were harmed during the attack. However, the ministry did not confirm the nature of the explosive used.
Israeli police reported that the blast caused light damage to the property and said an investigation has been opened. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of press time.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but it comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region. Diplomatic missions have increasingly become targets amid rising security concerns in Israel.
Authorities in both countries say they are cooperating to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
