Katsina State has mourned the death of a police inspector killed during a deadly attack by bandits on a police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in Kankara Local Government Area. The incident occurred behind the Science Secondary School in Kankara on Thursday.
Dr. Nasir Mua’zu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, said the attack was led by the notorious bandit leader, Babaru. Alongside the police inspector who died, another officer was wounded in the assault.
The state government expressed condolences to the family of the fallen officer and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace through strong cooperation with security agencies.
Dr. Mua’zu also praised the Nigerian Air Force for successful airstrikes on bandit camps at Sanusi Dutsinma and Sanusi Iku in the Matallawa hills, which led to the destruction of criminal hideouts and neutralised several armed bandits.
These military actions were guided by reliable intelligence from local communities, which the government urged citizens to continue providing to help fight insecurity.
The ongoing air and ground operations form part of Operation Fansan Yamma, aiming to eliminate bandit groups terrorizing Katsina and the wider North-West region, restoring safety to the people.
