A powerful explosion suspected to be caused by a military-grade mortar bomb killed at least five people and injured 15 others on Saturday morning in a residential area of Kano State.

The blast caused panic among residents, forcing many to flee their homes as emergency responders rushed to the scene. Security agents, medical personnel, and fire service officials quickly moved in to assist victims and secure the area.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who visited the scene, confirmed the incident and said initial findings suggest that a trailer carrying explosives may have triggered the blast.

“I received a call that something serious had happened. When I arrived, I found out it was a suspected explosion, possibly from a military mortar bomb. Fifteen people were injured, and sadly, five lost their lives,” he said.

The victims were taken to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.

The Police Commissioner added that the trailer suspected to be carrying the bomb might have come from Yobe State, though investigations are still ongoing.

“We don’t yet know if the trailer belonged to the military or a private company. Security agencies are looking into it,” Bakori said, urging the public to stay calm and allow authorities to do their work.

This incident comes just a day after a separate bomb attack in Borno State. In that case, a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded fish market in Konduga Local Government Area, killing at least 10 people and injuring seven more.

Security sources said the attacker disguised himself as a civilian and detonated the device in the middle of the market crowd. The Nigerian Army and emergency workers arrived quickly and took the injured to the hospital.

Both attacks have raised fresh concerns over public safety and the handling of explosive materials across the country.
