Senator Ishaku Abbo, a close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has cleared the air on reports suggesting confusion over the political party choice of a rising opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists, Senator Abbo confirmed that the coalition is aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) – and not the African Democratic Alliance (ADA) as some reports had claimed.
“There is no confusion. The coalition is aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), not ADA. We are at an advanced stage in our consultations and will soon unveil the party officially,” Abbo said.
He described the ADC as a party with credible structures across the country and one that is inclusive and nationally accepted. According to him, this makes the ADC the right choice for the opposition to rally around as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
Abbo also revealed that high-level consultations are ongoing with political leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations. The goal, he said, is to build a united political front capable of giving Nigerians a strong alternative to the current government.
This development is seen as part of wider efforts to regroup and strengthen opposition forces ahead of the next presidential race, with growing attention on what Atiku Abubakar’s next political move will be.
