President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has criticized those working to form a political coalition against his government, describing them as “political internally displaced persons (IDPs)” and warning that no politician would remain silent when under political attack.
Tinubu made the comments during a working visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Addressing the growing talks of a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, the President urged Nigerians not to give attention or support to such groups.
“Those who want to form a coalition, don’t pay them any attention. They are political IDPs. Don’t give them a home, don’t give them a hope, because the hope is here,” he said.
The President noted that while he is not focused on early electioneering or political drama, he won’t ignore actions that seem targeted at removing him from office.
“I’m not geared for what they are trying to pull on me – early political campaign. But who is a politician who will keep quiet when gangsterism is forming a coalition to unseat themselves?” he added.
The President’s remarks come amid talks in political circles about a possible alliance among opposition parties in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Several opposition figures have been calling for unity to challenge Tinubu’s administration.
President Tinubu’s statement signals a readiness to defend his position and policies, even as his government continues to face scrutiny over economic and security challenges.
His visit to Nasarawa was part of ongoing engagements with state governments, where he also discussed developmental efforts and security issues with Governor Sule.
