    Army Declares 3 Days of Mourning for 17 Slain Soldiers

    The Nigerian Army has declared a three-day mourning period in honour of 17 soldiers killed during a recent terrorist attack in Niger State.

    The attack, carried out by armed insurgents, took place in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka areas of the state. It left many soldiers dead and others seriously wounded.

    The Army said that several of the terrorists were also killed during the gun battle.

    In a statement released on Thursday via its official Facebook page, the Nigerian Army said all its formations and units across the country have been ordered to fly the Nigerian Army flag at half-mast from June 25 to 27.

    “During this period, we pay our deepest respects to these fallen heroes and extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones,” the statement read.

    The Army described the slain soldiers as brave and dedicated, adding that their sacrifice in defence of the nation would not be forgotten.

    This tragedy comes amid ongoing military operations in various parts of the country aimed at tackling terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity.
