46 Trafficked Ghanaians Rescued in Abuja, 7 Suspects Arrested

The Nigeria Police Force has rescued no fewer than 46 Ghanaian nationals trafficked into Nigeria and arrested seven suspects linked to human trafficking and cybercrime.

The operation, carried out by operatives of the National Central Bureau (NCB) INTERPOL, Abuja, was in collaboration with INTERPOL Ghana and the Ghana High Commission in Nigeria. It followed weeks of intelligence gathering and investigations into cross-border criminal activities.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the victims were lured from Ghana with false promises of job opportunities in Europe, only to be exploited in Nigeria.

“In the first operation, 31 Ghanaians were rescued after being forced into fraudulent online marketing schemes run by the QNET network,” he said. One of the victims, Samuel Dankwah Opoku, was promised a job in Spain but was instead trafficked to Nigeria where he was defrauded of GHC 30,000 by one Attah Amankwaah, a QNET member based in Nigeria.

Adejobi added that six suspects were arrested at their operational base during a raid that uncovered incriminating evidence pointing to a wider cyber fraud and human trafficking syndicate.

All seven suspects are now in police custody and will face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
