Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd.), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 17 Nigerian soldiers during a clash with suspected bandits in Bangi community, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Buratai extended condolences to the Nigerian Army and the families of the slain officers, describing the incident as a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by military personnel in the fight against insecurity.
“I have full confidence that the Nigerian military will do its best to surmount the security challenges across the country. The support of all other security agencies is needed to achieve a secure and peaceful Nigeria,” Buratai said.
His organisation, the TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation, also joined in mourning the fallen soldiers. The Chairman of the foundation, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani, called for continued national unity and support for the armed forces, especially in times of crisis.
He commended the Nigerian Air Force for its aerial support during the deadly encounter and emphasized the importance of working together to tackle insecurity across the nation.
“As the nation mourns its heroes, the call for unity and resilience resonates louder than ever,” the foundation added in its statement.
