A man who was fatally shot in northern Israel managed to name his alleged killer in a voice message to his wife shortly before he died. The suspect, police say, is the victim’s own nephew.
The incident happened on May 29 in Tamra, an Arab village in northern Israel. The 44-year-old victim was reportedly outside when he was shot. Although badly injured, he managed to walk a few steps and send a voice message to his wife, naming his attacker. He later collapsed and died in hospital.
According to Israeli police, the suspect — a 21-year-old man — tried to escape by replacing the SIM card in his phone and attempting to flee to the Palestinian Autonomous Territories. However, he was arrested within hours, along with a relative.
Police say the killing stemmed from a family dispute, though full details have not been made public.
This incident adds to growing concerns about violence in Israel’s Arab communities. Reports say at least 125 people from the Arab population have been killed in violent incidents since the beginning of the year.
Arab citizens make up about 20% of Israel’s population, and community leaders have long accused the government of not doing enough to stop the rising wave of violence in their areas.
