The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has announced plans to introduce a whistle-blowing initiative in public secondary schools across the state. The move is aimed at improving teaching standards and tackling negative practices in the education system.
TESCOM Chairman, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, disclosed this during a tour of secondary schools in the Ijebu, Remo, Yewa, and Egba divisions. He was accompanied by board members, senior staff, and school administrators.
Sanyaolu explained that the whistle-blowing system will allow teachers and other school staff to report problems directly to TESCOM without fear, and that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality. Dedicated phone numbers will be provided for this purpose in the coming weeks.
“This initiative is meant to address issues affecting teaching and learning in our schools,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring effective communication between TESCOM and school staff, and to improving the education system in line with the state government’s goals.”
He also urged teachers to be committed to their duties, dress decently, and promote moral values among students.
During the visit, school principals and vice principals praised TESCOM’s proactive approach. Mr. Ramon Akeweje of Itori Comprehensive High School, Mrs. Oluwatobi Ige of Yewa College, and Mrs. Olubunmi Taiwo of Odogbolu Comprehensive High School all pledged support for the initiative.
Schools visited include Ajagbe High School in Iperu Remo, Isanbi High School in Ilishan, Iganmode Grammar School in Ota, and several others in Abeokuta.
The initiative marks a major step by the Ogun State Government to strengthen the quality of education and ensure accountability in its public schools.
