The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has advised Abuja residents to stop using roadside bus stops, warning that safer and more organized alternatives are now available through government-approved transport terminals.
Wike made this known on Thursday, June 26, 2025, during the official commissioning of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in the FCT. The event was attended by top government officials, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking at the event, Wike thanked the President for his support toward infrastructure development in Abuja. He emphasized that the new terminals are designed to improve safety, reduce transport-related crimes, and modernize the public transport system in the capital.
He stressed that the bus terminal would be managed by private operators, not government staff, to ensure efficient service and revenue generation.
“Government is not a good businessperson,” Wike said. “If civil servants manage this place, in two weeks it will fail. That’s why it will be run by private hands.”
He also issued a stern warning to residents who still use unregulated roadside pick-up points:
“If you still go and stand by the road and enter one-chance, it’s your business. We’ve done our part.”
Wike revealed that more terminals will soon be built in Bwari and Gwagwalada to provide wider access to safe and organized public transportation across the territory.
With the launch of these terminals, the FCT Administration aims to enhance commuter safety and reduce cases of criminal activity linked to unregulated public transport.
