The late Nigerian business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, will be laid to rest in Madina, Saudi Arabia, following his death in Dubai on Friday at the age of 94.
In honour of the respected industrialist, a funeral prayer in absentia (Salatul Ga’ib) was held on Saturday at Umar Bin Khattab Mosque in Kano. The prayer was led by Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulamas, and attended by thousands, including Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin.
Sheikh Khalil explained that Salatul Ga’ib is performed for Muslims who pass away in a foreign land or where full burial rites cannot be held.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata, one of the last surviving members of the famed Dantata business dynasty, was known not only for his success in the private sector but also for his deep commitment to philanthropy. He built a vast conglomerate with interests in construction, manufacturing, agriculture, oil and gas, and finance.
Throughout his life, he funded hospitals, schools, mosques, and other welfare projects, especially in Northern Nigeria. He was widely respected for his humility, religious devotion, and contributions to the development of his community.
His burial in Madina is being arranged in line with his family’s wishes.
