A serving soldier with the Nigerian Army has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a former soldier to death during a late-night argument in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Kasuwan Fara area of the city, according to security sources.
The suspect, identified as a Lance Corporal attached to the Nigerian Army’s 7 Division, reportedly got into a heated dispute with the victim, Musa Adamu, who was said to be a dismissed military personnel.
During the fight, the Lance Corporal allegedly pulled out a jackknife and stabbed Musa in the chest.
“The victim was rushed to the Borno State Specialist Hospital but was confirmed dead by doctors. His body was later taken to the morgue for autopsy,” a security source said.
The suspect was handed over to the police on Friday by a senior army officer. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
