Flood Kills Two, Displaces Dozens in Borno Communities

    Share

At least two people have died and dozens more left homeless after heavy rainfall triggered massive flooding in Gumsuri and Wovi communities of Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.

The flooding occurred on Sunday after continuous rainfall that lasted between 12 and 13 hours. Local sources say nearly half of all houses in the affected areas were either damaged or completely submerged.

Many residents have been forced to flee their homes and seek safety on higher ground, leaving behind their belongings. A community elder in Gumsuri described the situation as critical and called for urgent support.

“We are overwhelmed,” he said. “Many have lost everything. We fear more bodies may be found as search efforts continue.”

Emergency teams are currently assessing the damage and working to confirm the number of casualties. Residents are appealing to the government, humanitarian agencies, and kind individuals for immediate assistance—especially shelter, food, and medical support.
