Former Real Madrid assistant coach Davide Ancelotti has named Luka Modric as his choice to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
The 39-year-old Croatian midfielder, who won the prestigious award in 2018, is set to leave Real Madrid after the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. Modric will join AC Milan on a one-year contract this summer.
In an interview, Ancelotti said, “This year? Luka Modric.” He praised Modric’s intelligence and longevity in the game, adding that the midfielder still has much to offer despite changing football trends.
However, many football fans see Modric’s chances as slim given his recent record of 13 goal contributions in 60 games last season. Other strong contenders for the 2025 Ballon d’Or include young stars like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Mohamed Salah.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for September, and the race promises to be competitive with several emerging talents.
Modric’s potential win would be a remarkable achievement, especially as he prepares for a new chapter in his career at AC Milan.
