The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned corps members posted to Abia State to avoid financial recklessness, misconduct, and disrespect towards their host communities as they begin their service year.
The warning was given by the Abia State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Gladys Adama, during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation programme held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
Addressing the corps members, Mrs. Adama urged them to embrace the service year with integrity, discipline, and commitment to national development. She emphasized the need for vigilance and advised them to avoid actions that could endanger their safety or tarnish the image of the NYSC.
“This journey demands your utmost vigilance and integrity. Avoid night travel, misconduct, communal conflicts, and irresponsible financial behaviour,” she said.
She praised the corps members for their discipline and commitment during the three-week orientation, adding that the values and training received would guide them throughout their service year.
Mrs. Adama also stressed the importance of respecting local customs and traditions, urging corps members to integrate peacefully with their host communities and act as agents of positive change.
She encouraged the corps members to take full advantage of the post-camp **Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED)** programme to boost their self-reliance and long-term financial independence.
Corps members were further directed to report to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) immediately after receiving their posting letters and to contact their local government inspectors before making any trips.
