Veteran Nollywood actor and lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will suffer its “final downfall” in the 2027 general elections. He said the African Democratic Congress (ADC), together with its new coalition of opposition forces, will lead the charge to rescue Nigeria from poor governance.
Speaking during a coalition strategy meeting, Okonkwo described the ADC as the “party of light” that is ready to bring hope to Nigerians. He said the party is focused on improving the lives of citizens, not just gaining political power.
“This party is not about power. It is about the welfare of Nigerians,” Okonkwo said. “If there is no new arrangement that can truly take care of the people, I would rather stay in my house and pray.”
Okonkwo took a swipe at the APC, calling the party incompetent and corrupt. He likened the ADC to light shining in darkness, saying the ruling party will be overwhelmed by the coalition’s movement.
“When you shine light in darkness, darkness disappears. APC will not understand what hits them,” he said confidently.
Quoting Article 3 of the ADC Constitution, he stressed the party’s commitment to the welfare of the people and creating an environment where every Nigerian can contribute to national peace and prosperity.
Responding to concerns about the presence of former APC and PDP members in the coalition, Okonkwo said many of them have learned from past mistakes. “Your best teacher is your last mistake,” he said, adding that the focus now is on building a united front, not on individuals’ past affiliations.
He also expressed readiness to support any candidate that emerges from the coalition, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, if he becomes the presidential candidate. “This is the time of the coalition, not individual parties,” he said.
Okonkwo dismissed fears of infiltration by APC loyalists, saying the ADC has done its homework and will handle any saboteurs like “spies in a battlefield.”
He concluded with a bold prediction: “Before long, APC people will be in hiding because of the shame that will come upon them. They won’t even be able to speak to Nigerians again.”
The ADC-led coalition aims to unite all opposition forces under one platform to avoid splitting votes and to provide a credible alternative to the APC in the 2027 elections. The coalition is pushing for solutions to Nigeria’s economic hardship, rising insecurity, and leadership failures.
