Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has strongly criticized the newly formed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing its members as “enemies of progress.”
Kachikwu made the remarks during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, on Wednesday. He took aim at the coalition, which recently adopted the ADC as its political platform for the next elections.
“They are enemies of Nigeria. They are enemies of progress,” Kachikwu said. “Nigerians can no longer be fooled. Nigerians from all walks of life watched the video—I just saw it today and what you saw in that hall were ‘former’ this and ‘former’ that: former Vice President, former governors, former ministers. All these ‘formers’ are taking Nigeria back to its former glory. They’ve never taken us forward.”
Kachikwu expressed concern about the continued recycling of old political leaders, warning that the coalition is dominated by the same people who have failed the country in the past.
“These are the same leaders who brought Nigeria to where it is today. Now they want to take us further backwards,” he added.
The ADC chieftain also lamented that young Nigerians continue to be excluded from leadership roles, as older politicians retain control of the political space.
The opposition coalition, which includes several prominent political figures, aims to unite various parties against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. However, Kachikwu’s comments reveal divisions within the opposition and raise questions about the credibility of those seeking to lead the country once again.
