“The last time we spoke, I congratulated Diogo on winning the Nations League and wished him luck for his forthcoming wedding,” Slot told Liverpool’s official website. “In many ways, it was a dream summer for Diogo and his family, which makes it all the more heartbreaking that it should end like this.”
Jota played an important role in Liverpool’s recent success, including their English Premier League title win last season. Since joining Liverpool from Wolves five years ago, the 28-year-old had won several trophies and was regarded as a key player by the club and fans alike.
