Popular social media activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has claimed that singer Naira Marley was more popular than music stars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy before his career took a hit due to the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death.
Speaking in a TikTok broadcast, VDM blamed “cancel culture” for what he described as Naira Marley’s fall from grace, insisting that the singer had the largest fanbase in the country—locally and internationally—before the incident.
“Naira Marley was bigger than Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido. His fanbase, the Marlians, was massive. But once that Mohbad issue came up, everything changed,” VDM said.
He described the music industry as a “dark place” filled with jealousy and urged authorities to wrap up investigations surrounding Mohbad’s death.
It will be recalled that a court recently dismissed the case filed by Mohbad’s father against Naira Marley and his associate Sam Larry, citing a lack of direct evidence linking them to the singer’s death.
Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, died under controversial circumstances in September 2023, sparking national outrage and demands for justice.
