Sudan’s head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has admitted he was shocked by the 4-0 score line in his team’s emphatic victory over Nigeria during their Group D clash at the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Appiah’s Sudan side completely outplayed Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles, scoring four goals without reply and knocking the West African giants out of the tournament.

The match, played on Tuesday, saw Nigeria concede an own-goal through Leonard Ngenge, while Sudan’s Walieldin Khedr and Abdel Raouf (who scored twice) sealed the win.

Speaking after the game, Appiah said:

With the result, Sudan now tops Group D with four points from two matches and will face Senegal in their final group game next week.

Nigeria, coached by Salisu Yusuf, came into the match needing a result to stay in the tournament after a poor start. But the heavy loss ended their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.

CHAN is a continental competition organized by CAF for national teams made up of players who play in their country’s domestic leagues.
