The Malam-Audu bridge, a major link between Pantisawa in Yorro Local Government Area and Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, collapsed on Thursday following heavy rainfall, leaving hundreds of commuters and residents stranded.
Eyewitnesses said the bridge gave way suddenly during a prolonged downpour that lasted several hours. While no injuries or deaths have been confirmed, the collapse has severely disrupted movement along the busy route.
The affected road is commonly used by traders, farmers, students, and public transport operators. Travellers are now being forced to take longer and more difficult routes to reach their destinations.
This latest collapse comes just a year after the Namnai bridge in Gassol Local Government Area also gave way due to similar weather-related causes.
Residents are now calling on the Taraba State Government and relevant federal agencies to act fast, repair the damaged infrastructure, and provide temporary solutions to ease the movement of people and goods.
Many believe the incident highlights the urgent need for stronger, climate-resilient infrastructure in the state, especially with the ongoing rainy season.
