Real Betis Ends Interest in Man Utd’s Antony Over High Cost

    Share

Spanish La Liga club, Real Betis, has officially withdrawn from negotiations to sign Antony, the Brazilian winger currently playing for Manchester United, due to the high financial demands of the English club.

Betis had shown strong interest in bringing Antony to Spain during the summer transfer window, but talks have now broken down. On Friday, the club released a brief statement confirming they can no longer continue the deal because of financial concerns.

“There is no agreement for Antony and we have withdrawn the offer,” the club said. “We can’t afford the fee and the amounts that Manchester United must instead pay the player before the transfer.”

Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, who has been following the situation closely, also confirmed that there has been no progress in talks between the two clubs, and that Betis has now ended their pursuit.

Antony, who joined Manchester United in 2022 from Ajax for over £80 million, has struggled to make a consistent impact in the English Premier League. While he showed promise in his early appearances, his recent performances have come under criticism, with questions raised about his future at Old Trafford.

Despite his challenges in England, there were clubs across Europe still interested in the 24-year-old, including Real Betis. The Spanish club had hoped to secure a loan or reduced-fee transfer, but Manchester United reportedly demanded too much—both in terms of a transfer fee and Antony’s salary expectations.

According to sources close to the negotiations, Manchester United were unwilling to let the player go cheaply, especially as they are still paying off his transfer fee to Ajax and have salary obligations to consider.

Real Betis, a mid-table La Liga team with limited financial strength, could not meet those terms and decided to step away from the deal.

With just days left until the end of the summer transfer window, clubs across Europe are rushing to complete final deals. For Antony, it means he is now more likely to remain at Manchester United, at least until January, unless another club comes forward with a better offer that suits all parties.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, German champions Bayern Munich are pushing hard to complete the signing of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson. According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern want the deal sealed before Monday, ahead of the transfer deadline.

Bayern are looking for a reliable striker to add more attacking power, and Jackson, who joined Chelsea last season, has been identified as a key target.

As the transfer window draws to a close, fans around the world are watching closely to see which big moves will be completed and which ones will fall through just like the Antony-Betis deal.
