Lamido: No Right-Thinking Northerner Will Vote Tinubu in 2027

    Share

Former Governor of Jigawa State and top chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has said that no right-thinking person from Northern Nigeria will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Lamido made the statement during a PDP expanded caucus meeting held in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, where party leaders gathered to discuss the future of the opposition and the state of the country.

Speaking passionately, Lamido accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of leading Nigeria into deep poverty, insecurity, and hopelessness. He said the North, like many other parts of the country, has suffered under the leadership of the APC since it came to power in 2015.

    > “We have been telling people Tinubu does not like the North. He doesn’t like anything that will help in developing the North,” Lamido said.

According to him, the signs were already clear when Tinubu served as Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007. Lamido claimed that during Tinubu’s tenure, Northerners living in Lagos were allegedly maltreated, attacked, and in some cases, killed.

“During his tenure as Governor of Lagos, Northerners were maltreated, attacked, and killed. That alone should tell you where he stands when it comes to Northern interest,” Lamido said.

The former governor went further to question how Tinubu managed to win the 2023 presidential election, accusing him of using money and political influence to secure votes across the country.

“In 2023, both the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere, and other meaningful associations did not support Tinubu. He used money to influence his support and win the election,” he alleged.

Lamido said PDP had warned Nigerians not to vote for Tinubu, but many did not listen and are now facing the consequences of their decision.

“We warned people not to entrust him with leadership. They refused to listen and are now paying the price. It is quite unfortunate for any Northerner to still think of supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid despite the suffering people are going through,” he added.

Lamido stressed that no reasonable Northerner who truly cares about the region’s development should back President Tinubu in 2027, regardless of their position in government.

“I don’t think a right-thinking person from the North will support Tinubu’s re-election bid in the coming 2027 election, even if that person is a minister, governor, or member of the House of Representatives,” Lamido said.

He called on Nigerians to unite across party lines, religions, and regions to rescue the country from what he described as “bad governance and betrayal” under the APC-led federal government.

The former governor added that the current hardship being experienced by Nigerians is the result of years of poor decisions and policies, which have only widened the gap between the rich and poor.

Lamido expressed hope that the PDP will bounce back stronger ahead of 2027 and offer Nigerians a credible alternative to the APC.

“With the current efforts and unity going on in the PDP, there is a possibility that the party will return to normal and reclaim its position. We will do everything possible to save this country,” he said.

The PDP chieftain also urged Nigerians not to give up hope, assuring them that the party is working internally to rebuild and present a strong front capable of winning future elections.

His comments come amid growing criticism of the Tinubu administration over the state of the economy, insecurity, and rising cost of living. Fuel prices, food inflation, and the falling value of the naira have all become major issues across the country.

Meanwhile, reactions to Lamido’s statement have been mixed. While some political analysts say he is simply voicing the frustration of many Nigerians, others believe his comments may deepen the political divide between the North and the South.

As 2027 approaches, the political atmosphere is already heating up, with opposition figures positioning themselves to challenge the ruling APC and President Tinubu for the highest office in the land.
