PDP Slams Senate Over Natasha’s Suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, to get ready to resume her duties at the Senate following the end of her six-month suspension.

In a statement released by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party expressed strong disapproval of attempts by the Clerk of the National Assembly to prevent Senator Natasha from returning to her seat. The PDP described the move as unjust and politically motivated.

According to the party, the suspension and the delay in allowing Senator Natasha back into the Senate are part of a wider plan by the Senate leadership under Senate President Godswill Akpabio, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to silence the voice of Kogi Central people.

“The action is a calculated attempt to deny the people of Kogi Central their constitutional right to representation in the National Assembly,” Ologunagba said. “It is undemocratic and unacceptable.”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate in March 2025 for six months after a heated session in which she reportedly accused some Senate leaders of covering up corruption. Her suspension sparked reactions from civil society groups, opposition parties, and her constituents, who saw it as a political witch-hunt.

The PDP argued that the suspension has already lapsed, and any effort to prolong it or block her return to the red chamber is not only unlawful but also a clear threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

“This action is not just against Senator Natasha but against the good people of Kogi Central who elected her. Denying them representation is a direct attack on democracy,” the statement added.

The PDP has therefore urged the National Assembly leadership to act in accordance with the law and democratic principles by allowing Senator Natasha to resume immediately. The party also warned that any further delay or obstruction could lead to legal and political consequences.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, a lawyer and former governorship candidate, won her seat in the Senate in a rerun election held in 2023, defeating the APC candidate. Her victory was seen as a major breakthrough for the PDP in Kogi State, a region traditionally dominated by the APC.

As Nigerians continue to call for fairness, rule of law, and respect for democratic institutions, many will be watching to see how the National Assembly handles this matter in the coming days.
