The Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued an Egyptian national who was kidnapped in the Idi-Ayunre area of Ibadan on Monday, September 8, 2025, less than 24 hours after the incident occurred.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, confirmed the victim’s rescue and revealed that no ransom was paid. The operation, described as “swift and tactical,” was ordered by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, who immediately deployed a multi-agency team to track down the kidnappers.
The successful operation involved operatives from the 4 PMF (Police Mobile Force) Unit in Ibadan, officers from the Intelligence and Tactical units, local vigilante groups, and support from the Ogun State Police Command. Working together, the team combed through dense forests and remote border communities between Oyo and Ogun States, where the victim was eventually located and rescued unharmed.
According to the police, the rescued individual is currently receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Eleyele, Ibadan, and will be reunited with family members after doctors confirm he is fit.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, gave a clear directive to deploy all necessary assets for the safe rescue of the victim without delay,” CSP Osifeso said. “The success of this mission reflects the dedication, coordination, and professionalism of the entire team.”
The incident has drawn public attention, as it comes amid growing concerns over cases of kidnapping in the South-West region, particularly involving foreigners, business people, and other high-profile targets. However, the prompt and effective response by the police has been praised by local residents and stakeholders.
“This rescue operation shows that intelligence gathering and joint efforts can yield positive results. The involvement of local vigilantes alongside official forces was key,” one retired security officer told The Daily Watch.
The Oyo State Police Command used the opportunity to remind the public of the importance of community cooperation. The statement urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station or via emergency hotlines.
“Our duty remains to protect lives and property in Oyo State,” the statement read. “We are committed to ensuring that all residents—Nigerians and foreigners alike—can live and work in peace.”
The police did not disclose the identity of the rescued Egyptian national or the motive behind the abduction, saying investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects involved in the crime.
With the latest development, the police reaffirmed their determination to stay ahead of criminal elements and maintain law and order across the state.
