President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, held a private meeting with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
The meeting was described as a “working private lunch” by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed the development through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“President Bola Tinubu, with his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, during a working private lunch at the Élysée Palace, Paris. Wednesday, September 10, 2025,” Onanuga wrote.
Details of the discussions between the two leaders have not been made public as of the time of filing this report.
President Tinubu is currently on a 10-day working leave, which began on September 4. He left Abuja last week to begin his annual vacation, during which he is scheduled to visit France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria.
Although the presidency has not disclosed the exact purpose of his meeting with President Macron, analysts believe it may be connected to strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and France in areas such as economic cooperation, security, energy, and investment.
France is one of Nigeria’s key international partners, with several French companies operating in the country and supporting various development projects. The two countries also collaborate on counter-terrorism, regional security, and education.
The private nature of the meeting has sparked curiosity among political observers and citizens, who are eager to know what was discussed, especially as Nigeria continues to face economic and security challenges.
Tinubu’s visit to France comes at a time when his administration is pushing for more foreign direct investment and international support to stabilise the economy and improve infrastructure.
President Macron has also shown keen interest in strengthening ties with African nations, particularly in the areas of technology, climate change, and youth development.
It is expected that more information about the outcome of the Tinubu-Macron meeting will be made available in the coming days.
