Zamfara Assembly Sacks ZAROTA Boss over N10m Diversion

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has sacked the Commandant General of the Zamfara State Road Traffic Agency (ZAROTA), Muhammad Bello Musa, popularly known as Kwata Kwata, over alleged diversion of public funds.

The decision was announced by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Bilyaminu Isma’il Moriki, during Thursday’s plenary session in Gusau, the state capital.

According to the Speaker, the dismissal followed the findings of a thorough investigation carried out by a House committee, which looked into financial misconduct within ZAROTA.

“Based on the investigation conducted by the House committee, the allegations were found to be true, and the House unanimously agreed to sack the Commandant General of ZAROTA, Musa Kwata Kwata,” Moriki declared.

The former commandant was accused of diverting over ₦10 million from the agency’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). The funds, lawmakers say, were not used for official purposes, prompting the House to take decisive disciplinary action.

In addition to his dismissal, the Assembly directed that the sacked Commandant should immediately hand over to the most senior officer in the agency. This arrangement will stand pending the appointment of a new Commandant by the state governor, Dauda Lawal.

ZAROTA is responsible for managing road traffic and enforcing transport laws across Zamfara State. It plays a key role in road safety, traffic decongestion, and revenue generation for the government.

The alleged misuse of IGR by its top official raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability in the agency’s operations.

Lawmakers say the House is committed to strengthening its oversight functions and ensuring that public officials are held accountable for any financial wrongdoing.

Governor Dauda Lawal is expected to appoint a new head for the traffic agency soon. Meanwhile, the Assembly urged all public agencies in the state to maintain high standards of integrity, discipline, and transparency in handling public funds.

“This action sends a strong message to all public officers: financial misconduct will not be tolerated in Zamfara State,” the Speaker said.
