The Benue State Police Command has intercepted a snatched vehicle and arrested four suspects in its latest effort to curb crime through intelligence sharing and swift response across state lines.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Makurdi. She said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between police commands and improve the tracking of stolen vehicles and other criminal activities.
According to Edet, on October 24, 2025, operatives of the Command in Otukpo, acting on credible intelligence from the Imo State Police Command, intercepted a black Mercedes Benz 4MATIC ML350 SUV that had been reported stolen at gunpoint in Owerri, Imo State.
“Four male suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, and preliminary investigations reveal that the vehicle was being conveyed to another destination when it was intercepted,” she said.
The police spokesperson explained that the suspects were arrested without resistance and that several items believed to have been used in the commission of the crime were recovered.
Among the recovered items were two Android phones, three button phones, one power bank, a criminal charm, and documents belonging to another vehicle.
Edet added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi for further investigation. She said efforts were ongoing to track and arrest other members of the syndicate believed to operate across different states.
“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, has commended the officers involved for their professionalism and quick response,” she said. “He also urged residents to continue to support the police with credible information that will help in the fight against crime.”
The Command reassured members of the public that it remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Benue State. It also restated its readiness to collaborate with sister agencies and communities to dismantle criminal networks operating within and around the state.
Vehicle theft and armed robbery have been major concerns in parts of North Central Nigeria, especially on highways connecting Benue, Kogi, and Enugu states. In recent months, police authorities have intensified efforts to recover stolen vehicles and clamp down on syndicates involved in inter-state crimes.
