Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has been declared the winner of the 2025 Anambra State governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result after collation from all 21 local government areas of the state.
According to the official figures released by INEC, Soludo polled 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes. Other candidates trailed far behind, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 8,208 votes, the Labour Party (LP) with 10,505 votes, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 1,401 votes.
INEC said a total of 584,054 valid votes were recorded from the election, with over 2.7 million registered voters in the state. However, only about 598,000 voters were accredited, showing a voter turnout of roughly 21 percent.
The election was held peacefully across most polling units, though reports from some areas mentioned delays in the arrival of voting materials and low voter turnout. INEC officials commended residents for maintaining order and praised security agencies for ensuring calm during the process.
The victory further strengthens APGA’s political dominance in Anambra, a state it has controlled since 2006. The party, which is known for its strong regional identity and slogan “Be Your Brother’s Keeper,” has consistently won governorship elections in the state for nearly two decades.
Soludo’s re-election cements his position as a key political figure in the South-East. A former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor and economics professor, Soludo first won the governorship in 2021, succeeding former governor Willie Obiano. His administration has focused on infrastructure, education reform, and efforts to boost local revenue.
In his acceptance speech, Soludo thanked the people of Anambra for renewing their trust in him. “This victory is not for me alone, but for every Anambra citizen who believes in progress and continuity,” he said. “We will continue to build a state that works for everyone, especially our youth and small business owners.”
With this win, Soludo is expected to continue his administration’s development agenda and strengthen Anambra’s position as one of the most economically vibrant states in Nigeria.
