The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a man, Abubakar Sadiq, who confessed to taking part in a plot that led to the murder of his elder brother, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, after he was promised the sum of N2 million.
Sadiq, who is currently in police custody, admitted that he agreed to assist the killers after receiving an initial payment of N130,000. He said the money was a deposit from the agreed N2 million reward for his role in the crime.
The victim, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, was a well-known businessman in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He was reportedly murdered on January 20, 2026, in circumstances that initially shocked residents of the community.
According to the Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect confessed during police interrogation that he conspired with five other individuals to plan and carry out the killing of his elder brother.
Nguroje explained that Sadiq played a key role in the plot by monitoring his brother’s daily movements and passing vital information to the attackers. He described Sadiq’s actions as that of a “torchbearer” who led the killers to their target.
“The suspect admitted that his assignment was to watch his elder brother closely and inform the group whenever he was at home or when he went out,” Nguroje said.
Sadiq reportedly told investigators that once he saw the alert of N130,000 paid into his bank account, he agreed to continue with the plan, despite knowing it would lead to his brother’s death.
In a statement quoted by the police spokesperson, Sadiq expressed regret over his actions.
“I was told to watch my elder brother and inform them whenever he was at home or moving around. After I received the alert in my bank account, I agreed. I regret my actions deeply. I sold out my own blood brother for N130,000, and I am truly sorry,” he said.
Further investigations revealed that Sadiq was later invited to a meeting held in a dense bush, where final arrangements for the murder were concluded. At that meeting, roles were shared among the conspirators, and the timing of the attack was agreed upon.
Police operatives arrested Sadiq after acting on intelligence reports following the killing. His arrest helped investigators uncover details of the plot and identify other suspects involved in the crime.
SP Nguroje confirmed that five other suspects are linked to the murder, but they are currently at large. He said the police have launched a manhunt to track them down and ensure they are brought to justice.
“The prime suspect will remain in custody while investigations continue. Our operatives are working hard to arrest the remaining suspects connected to this case,” Nguroje stated.
The murder has caused outrage and deep sadness in Gombi Local Government Area, where residents described the victim as a peaceful and hardworking businessman. Many community members said they were still struggling to understand how a family member could be involved in such a crime.
Some residents also raised concerns about the growing cases of violence linked to money disputes and greed. They called on families to strengthen values of trust, patience, and dialogue in resolving conflicts.
The Adamawa State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. It urged residents to provide useful information that could help in arresting the remaining suspects.
Nguroje also warned that anyone found to be involved in criminal activities, no matter how close to the victim, would face the full weight of the law.
