Tinubu Has Already Won 2027, Adeyanju Declares

A lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu is likely to win the 2027 presidential election, saying there appears to be no strong opposition at the moment.

Adeyanju made the statement in a post on X on Sunday, shortly after the announcement of results from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. In his post, he said that although he is not a member or supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the signs on the ground suggest that Tinubu could emerge victorious in the next general election.

“Tinubu has won 2027. If you like say I am working for APC, the truth will become obvious next year. Unserious people just interested in social media noise and not real opposition work,” he wrote.

Adeyanju is known for his activism and regular comments on national issues. Over the years, he has been critical of different administrations, including the current government. His latest comment has sparked discussion among political observers and social media users.

President Bola Tinubu was elected in 2023 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress. The 2023 presidential election was closely contested, with strong challenges from opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party. Tinubu secured victory after polling the highest number of votes and meeting the constitutional requirements.

Since taking office in May 2023, Tinubu’s administration has introduced several economic reforms. These include the removal of fuel subsidy and changes in the foreign exchange policy. The government has said these measures are necessary to stabilise the economy and attract investment. However, many Nigerians have raised concerns about rising prices of goods and services.

Despite the economic challenges, the APC has continued to record wins in some off-cycle elections and by-elections across the country. The recent FCT Area Council elections, where the ruling party won several chairmanship seats, have been seen by some analysts as a sign of the party’s growing influence in certain areas.

Adeyanju’s prediction appears to be based on what he sees as weak coordination among opposition parties. In his post, he criticised some political actors for focusing more on social media debates rather than building strong structures at the grassroots level.

Nigeria operates a multi-party system, but the APC and the PDP have remained the two dominant parties since 2015. The Labour Party gained attention during the 2023 election, especially among young voters, but it has faced internal challenges since then.

As the 2027 election is still about a year away, many political activities are expected to increase in the coming months. Parties will likely begin early preparations, including internal consultations, strategy meetings, and possible realignments.

Adeyanju’s statement has drawn mixed reactions. Some supporters of the President agree with his view, saying the APC remains well organised and firmly in control at the federal level. Others argue that it is too early to predict the outcome of the 2027 election, noting that political dynamics can change quickly.

In Nigeria’s political history, unexpected developments have often shaped election outcomes. Court rulings, party defections, economic conditions, and public opinion have all influenced past elections.

For now, President Tinubu has not officially declared his intention to seek re-election in 2027, though it is common for first-term presidents in Nigeria to seek a second term. The Constitution allows a president to serve a maximum of two four-year terms.
