Former Aviation Minister and politician, Femi Fani-Kayode, popularly known as FFK, has dismissed reports claiming that he was rejected by Germany for a diplomatic posting. The news, which circulated widely on social media and online platforms, has been labeled by Fani-Kayode as false and politically motivated.
Responding on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Fani-Kayode wrote:
“Fake news everywhere. These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment and they are doing everything to discredit me and scuttle it. Whether they like it or not I will serve my country! Keep crying!”
The claims about Fani-Kayode being rejected by Germany for a diplomatic role emerged over the weekend, sparking discussions across news outlets and social media platforms. Critics argued that the former minister’s appointment might not be approved by the intended host country.
However, Fani-Kayode firmly denied these allegations, describing them as an attempt by opposition figures to tarnish his reputation and undermine his appointment. He emphasized his commitment to serve Nigeria regardless of the criticisms and accusations leveled against him.
Fani-Kayode has been a notable figure in Nigerian politics for decades. He served as Minister of Aviation under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan and has been active in political commentary and party politics since leaving office. His involvement in national affairs has often attracted both support and controversy.
His appointment to the recent position, which has not been formally disclosed in all media reports, was reportedly approved by the current administration. This has prompted opposition figures to criticize the move, claiming that certain procedural or diplomatic hurdles may prevent the posting.
In his statement, Fani-Kayode suggested that those spreading the “fake news” are motivated by political rivalry and jealousy. “These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment,” he wrote, “and they are doing everything to discredit me and scuttle it.”
The social media response to Fani-Kayode’s post has been mixed. Supporters have praised him for standing firm and insisting on his right to serve Nigeria. Many users echoed his criticism of what they called “politically motivated smear campaigns,” arguing that spreading unverified reports only creates confusion.
Some opposition supporters, however, have continued to question the appointment, claiming that further transparency is needed regarding diplomatic postings and international approvals.
Femi Fani-Kayode has long been a polarizing figure in Nigerian politics. Beyond his tenure as Aviation Minister, he has served in various political roles, including as a spokesperson for political campaigns and as a prominent member of the ruling party.
Fani-Kayode is known for his outspoken nature and his active presence on social media, where he frequently comments on national politics, party issues, and international relations. His critics often accuse him of exaggeration or making unverified claims, while his supporters describe him as a patriot willing to speak boldly for Nigeria.
Diplomatic postings from Nigeria to foreign countries typically require approval from both the Nigerian government and the host country. Allegations of rejections or delays are not uncommon, but they often stem from political disagreements rather than formal diplomatic refusals.
