Security forces operating in Sokoto State have arrested three suspected bandits and recovered weapons and ammunition during an operation in Tangaza Local Government Area.
The arrest, which took place on April 29 at about 10:00 a.m., followed intelligence reports suggesting that a group of suspected criminals was planning an attack in the area. Acting on this information, troops moved quickly to intercept the suspects along the Tangaza-Gidan Madi road.
According to a security source, the suspects were identified as Aliyu Bello, aged 30; Dahiru Umar, 25; and Bashar Isah, 29. The three men are said to be from Kwazari village in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
They were reportedly travelling on a motorcycle when they were stopped by security operatives. Their movement raised suspicion, especially in light of recent intelligence warnings about possible attacks in communities within the area.
During the operation, troops searched the suspects and discovered weapons and ammunition hidden in a concealed manner. According to the source, the suspects had attempted to avoid detection by placing the weapons inside a sack, which was then kept inside another bag.
Items recovered from them include a locally made AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, two Dane guns, and two cartridges. Some traditional charms were also found in their possession.
Security officials believe the suspects may have been preparing for a violent operation, possibly targeting nearby communities.
