Afrobeats singer Portable has rejected his defeat in a celebrity boxing match against comedian Carter Efe, claiming he was “robbed” during the contest held in Lagos.
Portable made the remarks during a live video on his Instagram page shortly after the fight on Saturday morning. The controversial singer insisted that the result of the match was unfair and accused the organisers of bias in the way the bout was judged.
The fight took place at the “Chaos in the Ring 4” event held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event is part of a growing celebrity boxing trend in Nigeria, where entertainers from music, comedy, and social media step into the ring for entertainment and rivalry resolution.
According to official results, Carter Efe won the match by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight 27–30 in favour of the comedian, ending Portable’s unbeaten run in celebrity boxing.
Portable, who had previously defeated actor Charles Okocha and entertainer Speed Darlington, entered the bout with high confidence. He had hoped to win a third belt and further cement his reputation in the celebrity boxing scene.
Before the match, he had boldly declared his intentions, saying: “I will use you to collect my third belt. Charles Okocha was bigger than you, Speed Darlington was bigger than you, and I beat them. I will beat you now.”
However, Carter Efe responded calmly ahead of the fight, dismissing the threat with a short warning: “One punch and you fall.”
During the bout, Carter Efe used his height and reach advantage to control the fight across three rounds. He maintained distance, landed cleaner punches, and avoided Portable’s aggressive but less structured attacks.
Portable, known for his energetic and unpredictable fighting style, tried to overwhelm his opponent with frequent punches and pressure. However, the comedian’s composure and timing proved more effective in the ring.
After the match, Portable strongly disagreed with the outcome, describing the fight as unfair. He claimed that his punches were not properly counted and accused Carter Efe of using illegal tactics.
“I was robbed. Carter Efe was not professional enough. He was strangling with his long hands and height. I threw him many punches, why didn’t you people count them?” he said during his live broadcast.
He further accused the organisers of bias and demanded compensation. Portable claimed he was owed money from the event’s streaming revenue.
“And to the organisers, I want my stream money amounting to about N200 million. Just give me my money before I cause trouble,” he said.
The singer also criticised the judging process, alleging unfair treatment. “They did ojoro for me. All of you are mad. Carter Efe was just holding my neck. I was punching him too but you people are not talking about that,” he added.
Portable argued that the size difference between him and Carter Efe was not properly considered when the match was organised. He said the comedian’s height and reach gave him an unfair advantage.
“They knew he is tall and has long hands but still put him in a boxing match with me,” he said.
Despite his anger over the result, Portable shifted attention to personal news during the same broadcast. He revealed that his wife had just given birth to a baby boy, saying the birth of his child was more important than the boxing belt.
“My wife just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. I value that more than a belt. You can buy the belt but not my child,” he said.
Portable also said he was not deeply affected by losing the title, insisting that family matters were more important than sporting achievements.
“You can only buy a belt with money, but a child cannot be bought. You people cheated. They can’t pay the money amounting to the sum of N23 billion,” he added, though it was unclear what the figure referred to.
The result of the fight marks the end of Portable’s short-lived dominance in celebrity boxing. Since entering the sport, the singer had built a reputation for confidence and controversy, often using public challenges to promote his fights.
His previous victories over Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington had made him a central figure in Nigeria’s growing celebrity boxing scene. These events have become popular among young audiences, combining entertainment, social media attention, and sports drama.
However, Saturday’s defeat has raised questions about the fairness and organisation of such events. While fans debated the result online, some argued that Carter Efe’s performance was clearly superior, while others supported Portable’s claims of bias.
The event organisers have not officially responded to Portable’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
Celebrity boxing in Nigeria continues to gain attention, with more entertainers stepping into the ring for publicity and rivalry resolution. But as the sport grows, issues around judging, safety, and fairness are becoming more common topics of debate.
For Portable, the loss may not mark the end of his boxing journey, but it has certainly added another layer of controversy to his already eventful career.
