A young woman abducted by suspected bandits in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has regained her freedom after spending about five months in captivity, but her ordeal has left deep physical and emotional scars.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was confirmed pregnant after undergoing medical examination shortly after her release. The development has sparked outrage and renewed concern over the growing insecurity in parts of Kaduna State and across northern Nigeria.
Details of the incident were shared by Mr Reuben Buhari, a former media aide to the late Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Yakowa, in a post on his verified Facebook page.
According to Buhari, the woman was one of four people abducted when armed men attacked a residence in Kasuwan Magani. At the time of the incident, she was said to be taking care of her critically ill mother.
He explained that the attackers stormed the house and forcefully took the victims into the bush, where they were held for several months under harsh and inhumane conditions.
Like many kidnapping cases in the region, the victims were reportedly kept in remote locations, with limited access to food, water, and medical care. Their release eventually came after a ransom was paid, although the exact amount was not disclosed.
Buhari revealed that immediately after regaining her freedom, the woman was rushed to a hospital due to her weak condition. Medical personnel reportedly had to stabilise her before further treatment could be given.
“She arrived in a very frail state and needed urgent attention,” Buhari stated. “Doctors had to carry out a blood transfusion before they could proceed with other treatments.”
During the medical checks, it was discovered that she was pregnant, a situation believed to be connected to the abuse she suffered while in captivity.
Although full details of her experience were not made public, Buhari described the ordeal as deeply traumatic, noting that many victims of kidnapping go through suffering that is often too painful to fully explain.
He also revealed that the woman endured long periods of trekking barefoot while in captivity, which left her feet swollen and badly injured. The harsh conditions, combined with fear and uncertainty, took a heavy toll on her health.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the security challenges facing Kaduna State, especially in its southern region, where cases of kidnapping, banditry, and violent attacks have been reported frequently in recent years.
