Popular Fuji musician Remi Aluko has opened up about a personal health challenge that has changed his life, revealing that he has lost his sight after years of battling glaucoma.

The veteran entertainer made the emotional disclosure during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, where he spoke about his health condition and how he has been coping despite the difficulties.

According to the singer, many people are unaware of the seriousness of his condition because he has deliberately chosen not to allow it define him or affect the way he relates with others.

Aluko explained that glaucoma, an eye disease that damages the optic nerve and can lead to permanent blindness, has gradually taken away his ability to see.

“I’m a glaucoma patient. I’m managing myself; I’m currently not seeing. Despite being a glaucoma patient, many people don’t know. There’s no difference between me and a blind person now, but no one knows because I don’t let my condition weigh me down,” he said.

The musician also revealed that he had undergone eye surgery in the past in an effort to save his vision. However, despite medical intervention, his condition continued to worsen over time.

Although the loss of sight has created significant challenges in his daily life, Aluko said he has remained determined to stay positive and continue living without allowing depression to take over.

“Thank God that I know how to take care of myself like someone who can see. I decided not to dwell on my condition because I don’t want to be depressed,” he added.

His revelation has sparked sympathy among fans, colleagues and lovers of Fuji music across the country, many of whom expressed shock at the extent of his condition.

For years, Remi Aluko has remained one of the respected names in the Fuji music industry. Known for his energetic performances and unique style, he built a strong following within and outside the South-West region.

He rose to prominence during the golden era of Fuji music, when the genre enjoyed widespread popularity across Nigeria. Alongside several other leading Fuji artists, he contributed to the growth and development of the indigenous music style.

Fuji music, which evolved from traditional Islamic and Yoruba musical influences, remains one of Nigeria’s most recognised local music genres. Over the years, the industry has produced many successful musicians whose songs continue to enjoy airplay and public support.

Aluko’s latest disclosure has once again drawn attention to glaucoma, one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide.

Because vision loss caused by glaucoma cannot be reversed, doctors often stress the importance of early detection and treatment. Regular eye examinations are considered one of the most effective ways of identifying the disease before serious damage occurs.
