Popular comedian MC Mbakara has stirred reactions on social media after expressing disappointment over what he described as a cold and unfriendly encounter with Nollywood actor Jim Iyke.

The comedian accused some celebrities of behaving as though they were superior to others, saying many public figures appear distant and unapproachable even in ordinary situations.

MC Mbakara shared his experience after a chance meeting with the actor in an elevator. According to him, although Jim Iyke responded to his greeting with a handshake, he did not smile or engage in any friendly conversation.

The comedian said the encounter left him disappointed and wondering why some celebrities struggle to relate warmly with people who admire and support them.

His comments quickly attracted attention online, sparking a debate among Nigerians over whether celebrities owe members of the public friendliness and warmth whenever they meet them.

While some social media users agreed with the comedian and criticised celebrities who appear distant, others defended Jim Iyke, arguing that public figures should not be judged based on brief encounters.

According to those who supported MC Mbakara’s position, celebrities enjoy fame because of the support they receive from fans and should therefore make an effort to be polite and approachable.

Some argued that a simple smile, greeting or short conversation can leave a lasting positive impression on supporters who may have admired a celebrity for years.

Others, however, insisted that celebrities are human beings with personal challenges and emotions and should not be expected to be cheerful at all times.

They pointed out that people may be dealing with stress, fatigue, health concerns or private issues unknown to the public.

Many users also noted that a person’s facial expression during a brief meeting may not necessarily reflect arrogance or hostility.

Neither Jim Iyke nor his representatives had publicly responded to MC Mbakara’s remarks as of the time of filing this report.

Jim Iyke remains one of Nigeria’s most recognised actors, with a career spanning more than two decades in the country’s film industry.

Known for his tough-guy roles and charismatic screen presence, the actor rose to prominence in the early 2000s and has featured in numerous blockbuster Nollywood productions.
