The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, on Wednesday visited Pan-Atlantic University in Lekki to assess the security situation around the institution following the circulation of a viral video showing two masked individuals emerging from a forested area near the campus.
The visit came amid growing concerns among students, parents and members of the public over the footage, which sparked fears about the safety of the university community and residents in the Lekki area.
CP Jimoh, accompanied by operational officers of the Lagos State Police Command, carried out an on-the-spot inspection of the university and its surroundings as part of efforts to determine the level of security in the area and reassure stakeholders that the police were taking the matter seriously.
During the inspection, the police commissioner met with the management of Pan-Atlantic University and discussed measures aimed at strengthening security within and around the institution.
He stressed the importance of taking proactive steps to prevent any security breach and advised the university authorities on practical ways to improve their existing safety arrangements.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Command, Jimoh warned against actions or lapses that could weaken the institution’s security framework.
He highlighted the need for stronger perimeter surveillance, improved access control and sustained cooperation between the university and relevant security agencies.
The commissioner noted that security threats have continued to evolve and that institutions must remain alert and responsive to emerging risks.
He urged the university management not to rely solely on existing measures but to constantly review and upgrade their security systems in line with changing realities.
As part of efforts to boost security operations around the university and neighbouring communities, surveillance drones have been deployed to the area by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
The drones, facilitated by the Lagos State Government, are expected to support law enforcement agencies by enhancing aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and crime prevention efforts across the Lekki axis.
The deployment reflects the increasing use of technology by security agencies in Lagos to monitor vulnerable locations and improve response to incidents.
Lekki has witnessed rapid urban growth in recent years, with the area hosting major residential estates, educational institutions and business investments. This expansion has also brought increased concerns about security, making effective policing and intelligence gathering more important.

Speaking during the visit, CP Jimoh reassured the university community of the command’s readiness to protect lives and property.

“The Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Lagos State,” the commissioner said.

He explained that residents, students and workers often serve as the first source of useful information that could help prevent criminal activities.
The Lagos State Police Command also reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety across the state.
It urged residents to stay alert and avoid dismissing unusual movements or suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhoods.
The command advised members of the public to make use of its emergency lines to report security-related incidents and suspicious activities for immediate action.

In recent years, concerns over insecurity in parts of Nigeria have led many institutions to strengthen internal security measures, including the installation of surveillance systems, stricter access controls and regular security assessments.
The Lagos State Government has also continued to invest in security infrastructure through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, which provides equipment and operational support to security agencies working within the state.
For Pan-Atlantic University, the police visit appears to have provided reassurance that authorities are paying attention to concerns raised by the viral video.
