Nigerian content creator and actor, Jubril Oladapo Gbadamosi, popularly known as Officer Woos, has denied reports circulating on social media alleging that he was arrested for drug trafficking.

The comedian, who rose to prominence through his association with the popular comedy group led by Broda Shaggi, described the reports as false, malicious and defamatory, insisting that he had no involvement in the alleged criminal activity.

The controversy began after reports surfaced online on Thursday claiming that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had arrested Officer Woos for allegedly importing bread and brownies said to be laced with cocaine from Mexico.

The reports quickly spread across various social media platforms and blogs, attracting widespread reactions from Nigerians and fans of the entertainer.

However, reacting to the allegations on Saturday, Officer Woos, through his legal representatives, Versed Attorneys, strongly denied the claims and threatened legal action against those responsible for publishing and circulating the reports.

In a statement issued by the law firm, the content creator described the allegation as a deliberate attempt to damage his image and professional reputation.

According to the statement, the reports had caused unnecessary embarrassment to their client and could negatively affect his career and business relationships.

The lawyers said the allegations were entirely false and unsupported by any official confirmation from the relevant authorities.

They accused those behind the reports of engaging in defamation by spreading unverified information capable of bringing Officer Woos into public ridicule.

The statement said the publications were intended to harm “his reputation, his brand and professional standing.”

As part of the demands made by the legal team, Officer Woos called for an immediate withdrawal of the reports from all platforms where they were published.

“Our client further demands immediate and unconditional retraction from all pages, handles and individuals responsible for the publication and circulation of these false statements,” the statement said.

The lawyers also demanded a public apology from those involved in spreading the allegations.

“Our client further demands that a public apology be issued on the same platforms on which the defamatory statements were published, within forty-eight (48) hours from the date of this statement,” it added.

The legal team warned that failure to comply with the demands within the stipulated period would leave their client with no option but to seek redress through the courts.

As of the time this report was filed, neither NAFDAC nor the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had issued an official statement confirming or denying the alleged arrest.

The absence of an official position from both agencies has further fuelled public debate over the authenticity of the reports.

NAFDAC is responsible for regulating and controlling the manufacture, importation, distribution and sale of food, drugs and related products in Nigeria. The agency also works with other security organisations to combat the circulation of harmful and prohibited substances.

The NDLEA, on the other hand, is Nigeria’s lead agency in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse. It regularly announces arrests and prosecutions involving suspected drug traffickers through official statements and media briefings.

In recent years, the rise of social media has made it easier for unverified reports to spread rapidly, often before authorities are able to establish the facts.

Several public figures, including entertainers, politicians and business personalities, have at different times become victims of false reports circulated online.

For celebrities and content creators, public image remains a critical part of their careers. Allegations involving criminal conduct can affect endorsement deals, partnerships and relationships with fans, even where such claims are later proven to be false.

Officer Woos has built a strong following in Nigeria’s entertainment industry through comedy skits and acting roles. Known for his distinctive police uniform character in many of Broda Shaggi’s productions, he has become one of the country’s recognised digital entertainers.

The latest controversy has therefore drawn significant attention from fans and industry observers, many of whom have called for caution and urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources.

While the entertainer has firmly denied the allegations and demanded a retraction, Nigerians now await official clarification from the relevant authorities.

Until then, the circumstances surrounding the reports remain unclear.

What is certain, however, is that the development has once again highlighted the dangers of misinformation in the digital age and the importance of verifying sensitive claims before sharing them with the public.

As the 48-hour deadline issued by Officer Woos’ legal team begins to count down, attention will be focused on whether those who published the allegations will withdraw them, apologise, or prepare to defend their actions in court.
