The spokesperson for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said police detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene following the distress report.

He explained that preliminary investigations revealed signs of forced entry into the compound, suggesting that the attackers may have broken into the residence before carrying out the attack.

“Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary assessment revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance,” Babaseyi stated.

He disclosed that during a detailed search of the premises, officers discovered the body of the security guard inside the security post.

The corpse of Mrs Oyesiku was later found inside her apartment.

“The victim’s vehicle was also observed missing from the premises,” the police spokesperson added.

The disappearance of the deceased’s vehicle has fuelled suspicions that robbery may have been one of the motives behind the attack. However, police authorities say investigations are still ongoing and no conclusion has been reached regarding the circumstances surrounding the killings.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Mr Bode Ojajuni, has directed that a comprehensive investigation be conducted to uncover those behind the crime.

According to the police, detectives have been tasked with tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring that everyone connected to the incident is brought to justice.

An intensive investigation has commenced, with surveillance and intelligence-driven operations expanded across relevant locations in the state.

The command said the measures were aimed at gathering useful information, identifying suspects and preventing any attempt by those involved to evade arrest.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“An intensive investigation is ongoing to unravel the facts, track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act, while ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice,” the statement said.

The police also appealed to members of the public to support ongoing efforts by providing any useful information that could assist investigators.

Residents were urged to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report suspicious movements or activities within their communities.

The command further expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased, Ogun State Television, members of the media profession and all those affected by the tragic incident.

“The Command commiserates with the family of the deceased, OGTV, the media community and all those affected by this tragic loss,” the statement added.

Mrs Oyesiku was widely respected in broadcasting circles and was said to have contributed significantly to the development of public broadcasting during her years of service at Ogun State Television.

As a senior programme producer before her retirement, she was involved in producing programmes that informed, educated and entertained audiences across the state.

Former colleagues described her as dedicated, professional and passionate about mentoring younger broadcasters entering the profession.

The news of her death has therefore generated grief among media practitioners, many of whom remembered her commitment to excellence and her contributions to journalism and public communication in Ogun State.

Reacting to the development, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ogun State Chapter, Mrs Oluwaseun Boye, expressed shock over the incident.

She described the killing of the retired broadcaster as devastating, cruel and unacceptable.

According to her, the media community has lost a seasoned professional whose experience and contributions helped shape public communication in the state.

Boye called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the killings are identified and prosecuted without delay.

The incident has also renewed concerns over rising cases of violent attacks and insecurity affecting residents in parts of the country.

In recent years, security experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of community policing, intelligence sharing and stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies in tackling crime.

Many residents of Ogun State are now hoping that the swift response promised by the police will lead to the arrest of those behind the attack and provide justice for the victims and their families.

For now, grief hangs over Agodo community and the media industry as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Mrs Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard.
