The Federal Government has unveiled a new digital platform designed to give Nigerians easier and faster access to government services through a single online portal, marking another step in the country’s drive to modernise public service delivery.
The Government Service Portal (GSP), which was soft-launched in Abuja on Tuesday, is expected to simplify how citizens and businesses interact with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) by providing a single gateway for accessing multiple government services.
The platform was developed through a partnership involving Galaxy Backbone, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Government officials said the initiative would improve efficiency, transparency and accountability while reducing delays often associated with accessing public services.
The portal is also expected to eliminate the need for Nigerians to repeatedly create accounts or submit the same information to different government agencies.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Nadungu Gagare, who was represented by the Director of E-Government, Mr. Johnson Bareyi, described the launch as a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
According to him, the Government Service Portal is one of the flagship projects under Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0, which seeks to transform public service delivery through the use of digital technology.
He said the project was developed through collaboration between government institutions and development partners to make government services more accessible and user-friendly.
“Our mandate is not simply to deploy technology but to use technology to improve governance and public service delivery,” Gagare said.
“The Government Service Portal provides Nigerians with a single digital gateway to access government services in a simpler, faster and more seamless manner.”
He explained that once fully operational, users would be able to sign in once and access multiple government services without having to register separately on different government websites.
According to him, the portal aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan and Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure agenda.
The initiative is also expected to improve the ease of doing business by reducing bureaucracy and making government services more efficient.
Gagare said the portal would integrate with the Nigerian Digital Exchange, a platform that allows authorised government institutions to securely share information.
He explained that the system would reduce duplication across agencies, improve coordination and strengthen accountability in public service.
He urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to integrate their digital services into the portal so that Nigerians could access more government services from one location.
According to him, wider participation by MDAs is critical to achieving the full benefits of the project.
Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the Government Service Portal as another major step towards building a connected, efficient and citizen-focused digital government.
He said Nigerians had for many years been forced to visit different websites, offices and service centres whenever they needed government services.
According to him, the new platform is designed to eliminate that challenge.
“For far too long, citizens have had to navigate numerous websites, offices and service channels to interact with government,” Adeyanju said.
“The Government Service Portal seeks to change that by simplifying access, improving visibility, promoting consistency and creating a seamless experience.”
He added that the portal forms an important part of Nigeria’s growing Digital Public Infrastructure and would complement existing systems such as digital identity platforms, electronic payment services and secure government data exchange platforms.
Adeyanju explained that the current soft launch would allow government agencies to onboard gradually while collecting feedback from users before the platform is fully deployed nationwide.
He said lessons from the pilot phase would be used to improve the system and resolve any technical issues before full implementation.
The Galaxy Backbone chief also appealed to all government institutions to actively participate in the project.
According to him, the long-term success of the portal depends on strong collaboration among Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
“The true measure of this portal will be the ease with which citizens access government services and the trust built between government and the people,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone, Mr. Olumbe Akinkugbe, disclosed that extensive User Acceptance Testing had already been conducted before the launch.
He said the testing exercise covered all six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, 184 participants took part in the exercise to assess the usability and performance of the platform.
He revealed that more than 80 per cent of participants described the portal as user-friendly, accessible and easy to navigate.
Akinkugbe also said 88 per cent of the participants successfully located the government services they were searching for, while 71 per cent rated the platform’s performance as fast or very fast.
He added that public response during the pilot stage had been largely positive.
According to him, 91 per cent of users expressed willingness to continue using the portal after the trial, while 99 per cent said they would recommend it to others.
Despite the encouraging results, Akinkugbe said the pilot exercise also identified areas requiring further improvement.
These include user registration procedures, image capture processes and the delivery of One-Time Passwords (OTPs) used for identity verification.
He assured users that Galaxy Backbone would continue upgrading the platform during the pilot phase by strengthening system architecture, improving security and adding more verification channels, including email and WhatsApp authentication.
He added that more Ministries, Departments and Agencies would also be integrated into the platform as implementation progresses.
According to him, the portal would not only improve public service delivery but also simplify regulatory processes and strengthen Nigeria’s image as a technology-driven destination for investors, innovators and visitors.
The Senior Deputy Country Director of KOICA, Mr. Baik Ki-hyun, who represented the Country Director, described the Government Service Portal as one of the most important outcomes of digital cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea.
He said the platform was the flagship achievement of the four-year Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria project jointly implemented by both countries.
Ki-hyun commended Galaxy Backbone for successfully leading the implementation of the project and expressed confidence that the agency would continue to sustain and expand the platform after the completion of the partnership.
He also praised Nigerian and Korean software developers, technical experts and government officials whose efforts contributed to the successful delivery of the initiative.
According to him, digital governance is a continuous process that requires regular innovation, collaboration and improvement to meet the changing needs of citizens.
The launch of the Government Service Portal is part of the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at improving governance through technology.
Over the past few years, the government has introduced several digital initiatives, including expanded broadband infrastructure, digital identity programmes, electronic payment systems and online government services.
